September 15 starts a month dedicated to honoring the tradition, legacy and heritage of the Latine community. Since its first celebration in 2023, Latinx Heritage Month at UC Davis has been a powerful testament to the enduring strength and resilience of the Caribbean, Latine and Chicanx communities not only at UC Davis, but across the nation. Rooted in resistance, this year’s committee has brought together members of Students Obtaining Leadership and Navigating Academia (S.O.L. Y. L.U.N.A.), El Centro, the Cross Cultural Center, the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Chicana/o Studies, ASUCD, and Avanza all united by a deep hope to honor, cherish and learn from the legacies of sacrifices and liberation forged by our ancestors. Our theme, “Somos Gente, Somos Fuerza” (We are People, We are Strength), celebrates the collective strength, resilience, and diversity of Latine communities. This year’s theme honors the people, cultures, histories, and relationships that sustain our communities while recognizing that our greatest strength comes from one another.

About the Artist:
Juan Pedro Gallardo Perez

Hello, my name is Juan Gallardo Perez and I’m a Fourth Year UC Davis Student from San Francisco, California. This Latinx Heritage Month flyer was designed to represent unity, strength and resilience of the community in any cultural and political climate. At the same time I wanted to represent the beauty of the heritage which is why I included a culturally relevant flower for every Latin American country in particular order.

Chicanx/Latinx Community Resource fair and Fall welcome. This event focuses on establishing community connections with all of the Chicanx Latinx community on campus. 

El Centro's Open House- Monday, Sept. 28th 2026

Host: El Centro- Chicanx Latinx Retention Initiative

Location: Memorial Union 210 (aka El Centro) 

The doors are open, the music is up, and we are ready to kick off the school year STRONG! Whether you are a familiar face or stepping into our space for the very first time, El Centro is your home on campus. Come celebrate the start of the academic year with us, connect with your community, and learn about the academic programs and services we offer to help you succeed this year. We’ll have free food, great music, and lots of giveaways! Come through and enjoy the space!

Join us for Danzantes del Alma's Info Night! Meet the student board, enjoy performances, and learn more about our folklorico dance program, open practices, and the application process. No prior experience is required, we invite all students interested in baile folklorico and community spaces to attend.

Tour the Cross Cultural Center and enjoy a variety of cultural snacks and learn about our resources and upcoming community events and program.

3rd Annual Una Muestra de Nuestra Cultura- October 15th,2026

Time: 5:00-7:00pm

Host: Center for Educational Opportunity Program

The event will feature live performances, accompanied by a selection of cultural food and beverages provided by various student-run organizations and clubs on Campus. Attendees also can enjoy traditional games such as loteria and dominoes and so on.

Join us for Noche de Colores, a vibrant celebration of Latinx Heritage Month! Enjoy music, snacks, painting materials, and fun activities as we honor Latinx culture through creativity, community, and color. Everyone is welcome—come ready to celebrate, create, and connect!

Laura Itandehui and Julian Lage Quartet, October 18th, 2026

Laura Itandehui has emerged as one of the most authentic and forward-thinking voices in contemporary Latin music. Singer, composer, and artist from Oaxaca, Mexico her work is rooted in a deep musical exploration that blends jazz, vocal improvisation, and Latin American popular rhythms, shaped by a poetic, luminous, and distinctly personal sensibility.

Lila Downs: Cambias Mi Mundo, October 24th, 2026

Time: 7:30pm
Location: Mondavi
Host: Cross Cultural Center

Rooted in Oaxaca and shaped between Mexico and the United States, she weaves Mexican tradition with jazz, cumbia, folk, and contemporary rhythms. Her music is both celebration and purpose, turning each concert into a gathering where culture is honored, stories are reclaimed, and audiences are invited to feel, dance, and remember.
