September 15 starts a month dedicated to honoring the tradition, legacy and heritage of the Latine community. Since its first celebration in 2023, Latinx Heritage Month at UC Davis has been a powerful testament to the enduring strength and resilience of the Caribbean, Latine and Chicanx communities not only at UC Davis, but across the nation. Rooted in resistance, this year’s committee has brought together members of Students Obtaining Leadership and Navigating Academia (S.O.L. Y. L.U.N.A.), El Centro, the Cross Cultural Center, the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) and the Student Recruitment and Retention Center, all united by a deep hope to honor, cherish and learn from the legacies of sacrifices and liberation forged by our ancestors. Derived from this understanding, our theme, “Semillas de Resistencia, Cultivadas en Esperanza” (Seeds of Resistance, Cultivated in Hope), reminds us that our ancestors’ stories must be remembered—and that through this remembrance, we continue to shape our collective resistance. In doing so, we root ourselves in a shared hope for the journey to come.

Hello everyone, my name is Edwin Torres - Pardo. I’m a Second Year from La Puente, California. I created this piece to celebrate Latinx Heritage Month and highlight the strength, resilience, and culture within our community. I hope this work encourages pride in our heritage and reminds others of the importance of representation.

Join us for El Centro’s annual Fall Welcome and Community Recognition, a celebration that brings together students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members to kick off the academic year. This open house is your opportunity to explore the programs, services, and resources El Centro offers to support Latinx student success, belonging, and retention. In addition to connecting with our community and learning about the initiatives available to you, we will also recognize the incredible contributions of alumni, faculty, staff, and students who embody the values of advocacy, service, and leadership. The evening will feature food, prizes, and a live DJ — so after we honor our community, stay to dance the night away and celebrate the start of another year together

Navigating Higher Education as a Man of Color - Thursday, October 2nd, 2025

Host: Nu Alpha Kappa Fraternity, Inc

Nu Alpha Kappa Fraternity, Inc plans to host our Navigating Higher Education as a Man of Color seminar again this year to continue creating empowering spaces for students of color. This time, we will feature our recent alumni Josue Piña as the speaker. Mr. Piña graduated spring of 2025, served as a commencement speaker at the Latinx graduation ceremony, and is now pursuing his master’s in History at Sac State. Highlighting his journey as a Mexican undocumented student will show current students what’s possible and reinforce the importance of academic and cultural representation.

Location: LGBTQIA Resource Center in The Student Community Center (SCC) 

Laugh with Staff: Chisme Hour is a program where students and faculty can engage with participating center staff, student staff, and volunteers through games, snacks, and informal conversation. This program creates opportunities for students to connect with staff in a casual, welcoming environment. We’ll bring the snacks and games, you bring the laughs!

Photography Exhibition: In Camps, Under Trees and Evicted: Farmworkers Living Close to the Line in Northern California

Host: UC Davis Library
Location: Shields Library, first floor, near Archives and Special Collections and in the study space facing Olson HallVisit Shields 

Library to view a traveling exhibition by labor photographer and journalist David Bacon that commemorates the 60th anniversary of the 1965 farmworkers’ strike. Organized by the UC Davis Labor and Community Center in partnership with the artist, the exhibition shines a light on the experiences, strength and resilience of farmworkers in Northern California.
